Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)
Tuwajali Wajane Kwale Initiative CBO works to prevent and respond to gender-based violence by empowering widows, young women, and vulnerable girls with knowledge, skills, and support systems that promote safety, dignity, and justice. The organization conducts community awareness and sensitization sessions to challenge harmful cultural norms, promote positive masculinity, and encourage reporting of GBV cases.
In response to GBV, Tuwajali Wajane Kwale provides psychosocial support, basic counselling, and survivor-centered case management, including safe referral pathways to health facilities, legal aid providers, law enforcement agencies, and protection services. The organization supports survivors to access timely medical care, legal assistance, shelter, and social protection services.
Under Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), the organization delivers comprehensive sexuality education, menstrual health education, and awareness on family planning, maternal health, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. Tuwajali Wajane Kwale also facilitates access to youth- and women-friendly health services, promotes informed decision-making, and advocates for the protection of women’s and girls’ bodily autonomy and rights.
Additionally, the organization integrates economic empowerment and life skills development to reduce vulnerability to abuse and exploitation. Through strong partnerships with government departments, community leaders, health facilities, and civil society organizations, Tuwajali Wajane Kwale strengthens community-based prevention, protection, and response systems, ensuring inclusive, confidential, and survivor-centered support.
Widows’ Economic Empowerment
Uplift the widow project
Tuwajali Wajane Kwale Initiative CBO promotes the economic empowerment of widows and vulnerable women to enhance their self-reliance, dignity, and long-term resilience. The organization supports widows to form and strengthen savings and lending groups (VSLAs) and link them to the Tuwajali Wajane Kwale SACCO to improve access to affordable credit, savings, and financial inclusion.
The organization provides entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, record-keeping, and business development support to enable widows to start, grow, and sustain small enterprises. This includes mentorship, coaching, and continuous follow-up to strengthen business performance and household income.
Tuwajali Wajane Kwale also facilitates linkages to government and development financial services, including Uwezo Fund, National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), Women Enterprise Fund (WEF), and Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF), to expand access to affordable financing, grants, and business development opportunities
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
Demystifying the stigma of mental health project
Tuwajali Wajane Kwale Initiative CBO provides mental health and psychosocial support to widows, young women, and vulnerable girls to promote emotional well-being, resilience, and social inclusion. The organization conducts awareness sessions on stress management, coping strategies, trauma recovery, and mental health literacy to help beneficiaries recognize and address emotional and psychological challenges.
Through counselling services, peer support groups, and community dialogues, Tuwajali Wajane Kwale creates safe spaces for women to share experiences, reduce isolation, and build supportive networks. The organization also provides referrals to specialized mental health services where needed and integrates mental health support into other programs, such as gender-based violence response, economic empowerment, and sexual and reproductive health rights, ensuring a holistic approach to the well-being of beneficiaries.
Peace and Security
Amani yetu project
Tuwajali Wajane Kwale Initiative CBO promotes peace, social cohesion, and community security by empowering widows, young women, and vulnerable groups to engage in constructive dialogue and peaceful action. The organization encourages unity and tolerance within communities, particularly during periods of elections, helping people respect diverse opinions and resolve conflicts without violence.
The organization also supports widows who were left vulnerable as a result of violent extremism, providing psychosocial support, economic empowerment, and pathways to reintegration into their communities. Additionally, Tuwajali Wajane Kwale works closely with government agencies, community leaders, and civil society actors in the implementation of the County and National Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) action plans, strengthening coordinated strategies to prevent radicalization and promote community resilience.
